Butch Mazzuca
Butch Mazzuca is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. During his tour in Vietnam, which began in August of 1969, Mazzuca 421 combat missions in CH-46D helicopters.
In the spring of 2016 veterans from VFW Post 10721 Minturn came in weekly on Wednesdays to be interviewed by EVTV student journalists during class for the Veterans History Project. Before the full interviews were able to be sent to the Library of Congress to be archived, the files were wiped from the computers, resulting in the loss of many veteran interviews. A couple of the original profiles remain. This profile of Dave Schneider was made by Hayden Williams ’19 during that time and is one of the profiles that was able to be recovered.
In his column in the Vail Daily published on November 9, 2019, Mazzuca writes, “We shouldn’t confuse Veterans Day with Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a day to remember and honor military personnel who died in the service of our nation, especially those who died in combat. Whereas Veterans Day is a day set aside to honor all those who served honorably during both wartime and during times of peace.”
