Elementary schools face unique challenges adjusting to online learning

Reading in the sun is a fun way to get outside. Hailey Gifford has been spending a lot of time reading in the sun. “Reading is a good way to seem as though you are not stuck at home,” says Hailey, “You can travel and go on so many adventures while reading a good book.”

Alex plays on his trampoline as a way to stay active. It might be difficult to stay active while stuck at home so Alex and his brother have been staying active skateboarding and playing on the trampoline

School is a great way to fill time while stuck at home. Mikaela Gifford is working on an English project. The project was to read a short story and illustrate a cover for the story. “It is a fun project because we get to draw a cover for the story. It is a fun way to think deeper about the story,” says Mikaela.

Maddie Auvil has been going on many bike rides to stay busy and active while social distancing. Biking is fun even when you are doing it alone. It is also a great way to stay active. There are lots of great trails in Eagle. One of her favorite trails is Haymaker in Eagle.

Meka enjoys a game of fetch. While being at home because of social distancing Hailey and Mikaela Gifford have been playing fetch with their dog Meka. Meka is also going a lot more walks than she would if there was no social distancing.

Mikaela Gifford takes her ballet class on Zoom. Since the studio has been closed, the students take their dance classes on Zoom. They are not only having classes with their regular class teachers but also with teachers from across the country. “It is kind of difficult to take classes with teachers that you are not familiar with because they all teach a little bit different,” says Gifford. “It is fun to learn from all of these different teachers."

While being at home during this I have been reading a lot of books. This has helped with my intellectual Wellness. It has helped me because I can be with the characters in the book while reading it and that helps me not feel as far away from my friends and people that I would see on a day to day basis. Reading has also helped with my environmental wellness because I have been going outside when it is sunny out and read my book in the sun.
